CivilLaser’s 37dBm YDFA SM Fiber Amplifier Operation Demonstration
Today, we’ll take a detailed look at how to operate this new CivilLaser touchscreen Ytterbium-doped fiber amplifier. Let’s check it.
This is a Ytterbium-doped fiber amplifier. High power YDFA has built-in cooling fan. Here is a desktop type, customizable module fiber amplifier.
The working mode can be set to ACC or APC. Click the Mode area to switch the working mode. In ACC(Automatic Current Control) mode, set the operating current. In APC(Automatic Power Control) mode, set the output power. Use the up and down arrow keys on the right side of the screen to adjust the corresponding parameters. We can also click ‘Power Set’ or ‘Current Set’ to enter the value you want.

The core of YDFA is ytterbium-doped fiber. An external pump laser (typically with a wavelength of 980nm or 915nm) injects energy into the fiber, causing ytterbium ions to transition from their ground state to a higher energy state. When signal light enters the ytterbium-doped fiber, the high-energy ytterbium ions undergo stimulated emission, transitioning back to the ground state and releasing photons of the same wavelength and phase as the signal light, thus amplifying the signal. The ytterbium ion energy level structure is suitable for high-power pumping, enabling kilowatt-level output, and is commonly used in laser processing and medical fields. Low noise and high gain: Compared to EDFA, YDFA has advantages in low noise figure and high gain in specific wavelength bands. Through its high power and specific wavelength band advantages, YDFA complements the shortcomings of EDFA in industrial and communication fields, becoming an important branch of fiber amplifier technology.
